Developer Experience from Zero (Geospan)
First developer docs for a new engineering team
Geospan had three decades of patented geospatial imaging technology behind it, applied to roof measurement from 2024 through gSquare, gPro, and gPro xPress. The products served insurance, roofing, and government, with integrations into Verisk/Xactimate, Cotality, and Acculynx, among others. When the engineering team formed, none of it had a developer-facing surface.
- Built the first-generation developer documentation from nothing
- Wrote code examples in Python and JavaScript against the live APIs
- Shipped Postman collections, so integration partners could exercise the API before writing a line of their own code
Content operations that outlast the contract
A developer surface is only worth building if someone can keep it alive. Alongside the documentation itself, the engagement delivered the operations around it.
- Redesigned the developer documentation site on the Hugo CMS
- Implemented the HubSpot Knowledge Base and launched the internal developer experience
- Mentored leadership and engineers in knowledge systems, information architecture, and content operations
That last item is the one that matters, because documentation decays without it. By the end of the engagement, the engineering team had a developer surface it could maintain itself.
